The All Things Altered Blog Hop is Here!

Oh my goodness! I'm so excited about this blog hop and so excited to finally show you what I've made. You should have come to this blog from Lyneen Jesse's blog. You should have started from the Sakura Hobby Craft Blog. I've been thinking about cooler weather lately and also about the different Seasons of the year. I am so ready for Fall that I decided to make a Fall Fairy! Here's what I started with:

I used this wonderful paper mache' torso on stand, Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquer, Terri Sproul Color Enhancer and Terri Sproul Copper Penny Mixer. I mixed all of the previous together and painted my torso to start with. It turned out an awesome color:

My next thought was to use some silk Fall leaves as the dress:

            

I also made these beautiful Fall Fairy Wings too! Terri Sproul has a wonderful tutorial on YouTube, showing you how to make them. I'm afraid this post would go on too long if I explained it all right now. Once the Fall Fairy Wings were finished and attached to the torso I then made a dress for the Fairy with the leaves:

          

Wasn't this Fairy just looking good? I decided to use a Sunflower for her head and I molded a Paperclay face which I attached. I used Crystal Lacquer and Shimmer Red and painted the petals with it. I mixed up some of the Extra Fine Glitter with the Crystal Lacquer and painted it on the leaves of her dress. The face was sealed with the Crystal Lacquer. Making a tag with Sakura Hobby Craft and Terri Sproul Mixers!

 

I’ve been making a lot of ATC’s and Tags lately. I love making them because you get some almost instant gratification and they look so good when you’re done. I started out today’s project with the following:

I mixed the Crystal Lacquer with the TS Mixers Using Copper Penny Pearl. The rest was easy………………………………………..  First I painted my tag with the Copper Penny and let it dry:

Is this not the most beautiful color? And you should see it in person and up close! This color just looked so beautiful once it dried that all I did was add simple embellishments and voila’ here we have it!

                 

Don’t you think this is just the most beautiful tag for Fall? I loved how it turned out! What do you think? Please also come back tomorrow to our Altered Blog Hop!! Sakura Hobby Crafts and Terri Sproul Mixers!!!!

Hi folks! I wanted to show you something that I made with the Sakura Hobby Craft Lacquer and my Terri Sproul Mixers. Terri has shown us on her show (every Monday night at 8:00 PM EST on Linqto) and has also told us how easy it is to create ATC’s (artist trading cards) by using the lacquer and mixers. She even told us that you don’t have to wait until one color is completely dry before going over that color with another. Well I thought I would do just that. I started out with:
                                               
I used the color mixers in the pastel palette because those were the only colored lacquers I had. I do have to say though that when you mix the Terri Sproul Mixers with the colored Sakura Hobby Craft Mixers  they come out an even deeper color. I also used Tanazanite Blue,  Yellow Shimmer, Green Shimmer and a few pieces of the Gold Glitz. I also used a word to describe what I was trying to portray and an ATC card that was gessoed in black. This is what I came up with and I’ve got to say it looks awesome!!!!! I belong to a group on Facebook who perform Random Acts of Art! This ATC will be left anonymously in a public place for someone to discover and take home with them. Oh, my word is “shine”. :0)
                                         
This picture doesn’t even begin to show the Shine on the card produced by the mixers. Nope, not even close! What do you think of this ATC?

Working with Paper and Making ATC’s!

 

When I heard of the Arnold Grummer company wanting people to sign up for their design team I thought , Woo Hoo this sounds like fun! I then went to their blogspot and read all about Arnold Grummer and how he started his company. I’m telling you folks this is one AWESOME paper company! Anyhoo, I wanted to try out for the design team but I’ve come down with a really nasty virus. So I went ahead and made these ATC cards.

To start with I did use some handmade paper, but it wasn’t made by me. I cut it into ATC size and primed it with black gesso.

                         

I then proceeded to play with my stash of paints and some of the stash I have of scrapbooking supplies. I used Sakura Hobby Craft Crystal Lacquer to adhere the bits and bobs I used to decorate my ATC’s and also put a nice protective finish over all three ATC’s when I was finished.

           

What do you think? I used Twinkling H2O’s for the paint, and I also used a butterfly stencil on the one that says “Soar”. I plan to give these out to friends.

Amazing Clear Cast Resin and some Steampunk goodness!

 

I really have to start out by saying that my pictures this go around didn’t nearly give my project justice and I had a terrible time getting the camera to work at all. I thought I was taking pictures but when I went to download them they weren’t there. :0( And so to begin, I started out with Amazing Clear Cast Resin and a mold that a friend had picked up for me.

I’m sure that you can see that the mold is cracked. I’ll explain what happened. Now I have used the Amazing Quick Cast resin many times in rubber molds and plastic molds without any problems but after pouring my second layer of clear resin it quickly became apparent that this resin wasn’t going to let go. I thought I would deal with the release part when I came to it and continued on. I put a layer of clock parts in the resin and then poured another layer to fill the squares enough to cover them. I then used some of the Terri Sproul extra fine glitter and sprinkled it around the outside of the frame and laid a steampunk picture in the wet resin. The picture really is awesome and is a man and woman from the victorian era with gears etc. all over. It made a terrific background and then I poured a final layer of resin over the back of that. Once it set I was totally stumped as to how to get the resin to release. so I made one phone call to someone and they didn’t know what to do either. I then had the thought to ask the same friend who gave me the mold if she might know because she had used resin a lot in the past. She told me that the mold might crack or break but to put the piece in the freezer for a few minutes and then give it a try to pop the piece out. Well that’s what I tried and guess what? Yep it popped out!!! The frame did crack but guess what? Since my piece came out perfect I’ll use it to make a mold with the Amazing Mold Putty!!! What a perfect ending. Here are several pictures of the project. I wanted to try to show you how everything is layered in the resin. I’ve got to say this is an amazing piece and I plan to hang it on the wall.

Isn’t this gorgeaous? I am so happy at the way it turned out. And now we all know what a few minutes in the freezer can do for a stubborn project!

Quick Tip for Creative Paperclay®

 

Whenever you are using Paperclay in a mold, it is best to dust the mold with cornstarch before filling with Paperclay to keep it from sticking.

However, if you don’t have any cornstarch handy you can use baby powder instead. It smells good too! Hope this helps you the next time you use

Paperclay.

A Mixed Media Piece using Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquer and Terri Sproul Mixers and Want2Scrap Products

 

I’ve had such a fun time today playing with the above items and more. I started out with a 6X6 canvas piece from Want2Scrap and covered it with Crystal Lacquer that had been mixed with Shimmer Tanzanite Terri Sproul mixer.

     

I thoroughly enjoyed using the lacquer and mixers. It was so beautiful when I painted it on the canvas and what was nice was that it stiffened the canvas too. I then had fun adding a peel and stick bird from Want2Scrap, and I also added some green pearls from Want2Scrap, added some rubons and stamped words, create, inspire, believe and then topped it off with a piece of ribbon roses from Want2Scrap that I had colored with a Pitt Pen. I love my Mixed Media piece! And isn’t the background wonderful? I also used the Crystal Lacquer as a glue for the bird and the rose.

     

I really like this! How about you? I think I may put a little hanger on it and hang it in my craft room.

Creative Paperclay® Ladybug

 

With Summer here, I thought it would be a good time to make something cute that you see in the Summertime. I decided to make a ladybug using a gourd and Creative Paperclay® I started out with a piece of clay and fashioned a face which I put on the front of a small bottle gourd.

 

I then painted my gourd to look like a ladybug:

        

Hmmm………Looks like it just need a few finishing touches:

        

Of course, some antenna and a sealer.

        

Now don’t you think she’s cute as a bug? lol You can use Creative Paperclay® in so many different ways and have oh so much fun doing it!

Making a necklace using Sakura Hobby Craft products

 

Sakura Hobby Crafts was kind enough to send us some wonderful products to make jewelry with this month. I wanted to try my hand at making a necklace. This is some of the things that we were sent to use:

     

Here is what I chose to work with:

   I cut some of the flowered acrylic paper to fit the glass tile. I then used the Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquer to adhere the paper to the tile and once it dried I used the Sakura 3D Crystal Lacquer to adhere the bail to the glass tile. All I had to do then once it dried is thread the chain through it and voila’ I have a necklace that will look great for wearing this Summer. Sakura you just rock! Now it can be so simple to make stunning pieces of jewelry anytime you need something new and you can make it coordinate with that just right outfit that you plan on wearing!

Something I painted

 

 I haven’t been painting for very long. Actually just a few pieces. Anyway, yesterday I painted this with Twinkling H2O’s watercolors from Luminarte:

I posted it on Facebook this morning and have gotten a lot of good response so far. So tell me, what do you think? I would really like to know.

Making Toppers with Mold Putty and Casting Resin

 

I’ve been working on my Gourd Art a lot lately. I’ve been to shows and have several shows coming up. I just started to work on a new gourd that I planned on putting a butterfly on the side of. I wanted a unique topper so I pulled out a couple of drawer pulls that I had in my stash box.

 As you can see one of the drawer pulls was a butterfly! So I got out my Mold Putty and mixed up equal parts of A and B.

And then molded the putty around my drawer pulls. Once the Mold Putty had set up I took the drawer pulls out and dusted the butterfly pull mold with Alumilite powder in Gold. Kind of hard to see the Gold inside the putty. Once that was done I mixed up equal parts of the Casting Resin and poured that inside the mold. When I took the resin out of the mold when it had set, it was covered with the Gold color and I placed it on top of my gourd to see how it was going to look. It’s kind of hard to see the butterfly but it’s going to work perfect for this butterfly gourd.

                      I still have quite a bit of work to do on this gourd but I don’t have to worry about a topper!
